The statement by our next elected Governor, Roy Barnes, is supported by lynn westmoreland thoughts. "Businesses do not want to come to Georgia when the elected officials [republicans and blue dogs] promote legislation that reflect the 1950's and parts of the 1980's". I grew up with Depression stories drummed into my head. Living in my father's house was just like living through a Depression. He was always saving for the days when people would be stupid enough to vote for republicans again. I don't want to have to live through a REAL Depression at this late date in my life.

People also forget about the "Free Speech Zones" during the Bush years where they HID the protests to the Patriot Act etc! Obama is not doing that!

I saw a teabagger with a sign that said "Do not spay or neuter your dog or cat...do it to a Liberal!" No hate there is it? They want a one party Fascist system as before!! We need to fight and people need to get out and vote like we did in 08!

People DID complain, but were powerless to do anything about it. Do you know the political party members of WHO runs the country? REPUBLICANS! Their current plan to keep laying off people and the need to downsize, puts people out of work, runs down the economy, makes Obama look bad, and "IF" they manage to elect a GOP president, plan to then start hiring again, putting people back to work and when the economy improves will give the credit to the Rep. president when all along they were behind it.

so what happens to the elderly whose only income is social securitiy? how will they live? do the republicans care about how shutting down the govt will affect those who are out of a job and need their unemployment? What about single mom's who need their child support checks, food stamps, help with rent, utilities?

This generation didn't start the welfare program, but those that run it have lost control of it. People abuse it and yet those that need it are denied help.

I think a bunch of Chimpanzees could run our govt a whole lot better than the crooks who are running it now.

Between the greed of Wall St and the corrupt politicians, this country is going down the tubes.

Actually it might be a great thing of the Republicans did win in November. Once they shut down the government and subsequently overturned health care, eviscerated SS & Medicare, let Wall Street run rampant again -- the Democrats will be the beneficiary ever for why you shouldn't vote Republican. Take away that SS, Medicare, and Veterans benefits and I'll bet there will never been a Rethug in the WH ever again.

I think Barb is actually on the same side as you. It sounded to me like she was saying to the R-Vice Chair that none of the Repubs wanted "pain" during the Bush years, they didn't want to do anything to right the country then and now they are conveniently, suddenly fiscally responsible etc.

They are taking the obstructionist party position too far. It's sad that it gets results and makes ignorant, naive people believe it's the right way. Ultimately THAT is what will sink our country.

i don't think the republicans will shut down the government but if they do it will be the end of the republican party. that day is coming in the next 15 or 20 years anyway. most of america's young think progressive and the latino vote is rapidly growing. democrats will get most of that vote. no way the republican party will ever recover with either a shut down or the future young voters

Oh yeah, the Republicans are so patriotic. So childish are they. Too stupid to realize that it was their policies that put this country in the rut we're in, and it's amazing that a large number of voters are so stupid to remember that. Well, I'm out there, working hard to keep voters reminded of what Republican policies have done to our country. With a little luck and a lot of hard work, the Republican tactics since Obama's election will blow up in their faces.
