Those conservatives ranting about the "tyranny" of the Obama administration have evidently forgotten (or never noticed) the Bush administrations contempt for the law and its reliance on secrecy as it did all it could to consolidate power into the hand of the wealthy and the privileged.

Congratulations! You have parroted the Democratic mantra exactly! Another who cannot think for himself but gets his marching orders daily from ABCCBSNBCCNN and MSNBC. You sheep ain't seen nothin' yet!

Interesting how those committed to divisiveness can sit at home and delight in being cleverly rude to absolute strangers. The real America took pride in civility, compromise and tolerance. The models of that day called for decency, hearing both sides of every issue; fighting for what you believed and then drawing together as Americans behind whatever side prevailed. I guess you missed that chapter in your partisan history book.

I think the compilation from the Daily Kos should become required viewing for everyone who contemplates watching Fox News Cable. Kind of like making high schoolers watch bad accidents before giving them a driver's license.
  • dianeross · 1 month ago
What a riot!!!! Fox claims it a monumental, bellwether race that will send a message to everyone until the Democrat happens to win. Then it's an insignificant district with very few voters - hardly worth thinking aobut.

    I loved it.

I could see the egg dripping on the faces of the Fox non-intelligencia as they announced the NY-23 Democrat win. I hadn't had this much fun since Obama won.

All the White House has to do, is the exact opposite of what Bush/Cheney did for the last 8 yrs. and things will finnaly start to get better. I like what mcgtrinsofla had to say.

all this bitchin' about yer taxes.... where were you during bush/cheney when they and thier policies BANKRUPTED this country, both morally and physically? it took 'em eight years to screw things up. we CANNOT repair this overnight, or, on the cheap! wake up yopu morons!

This should just be a perfect indicator of just how wrong the right wing party is, standing in all their confidence, stuck in just idealism, throwing realism by the wayside, with just so many of the know-it-alls, just plain, dead wrong!

There's a lot of gloating and hysterical laughter going on here. I wish I could share in it, but what is really going on in Washington is frightening. They are working feverishly to take our liberties away, one bill at a time. While you're guffawing about one New York race, our government will establish 111 new bureaus to administer your healthcare! Do you really want some government employee like one from the DMV or IRS making a decision about whether you are able to get a flu shot, medical tests, or surgery? Get in line and hope that that all-powerful government employee likes you or can interpret the regulations. Will you be laughing then?

You are focusing your eye on the ball over HERE, but the game that they are playing - and about to win - is way over THERE. Instead of LOLing, maybe you could connect the dots. When this monstrosity of a healthcare bill (and cap and tax bill) are passed, you'll be among the first to say, "Why didn't someone tell me? I didn't know. How did this happen?"

We Americans have a responsibility to pay attention to what's going on and to protect our freedoms. There is a serious attempt to take them away. Just for fun, why not tap into some other news sources to find out the truth? LOL
  • Cowgirl52 · 1 month ago
PaulaR: In case you haven't noticed, we already have people with interests of financial gain telling us whether or not we can have that flu shot or that medical test... and charging us an arm and a leg for it. They are call the insurance companies. My story is mild compared to some but when an insurance company tell me I can't have coverage because of a pre-existing condition, or that I should transport my son 150 miles, who's broken body is in a body cast from chest to knees, in the back of a pick-up truck that is beyond criminal.
Oh and by the way the spending you are so concerned about has already happened, but without you premission...it is the deficit that we have from the preceding 8 years before Obama. Ya know, I compare it to everyday life like this, if you run up your credit card you still need to buy groceries right.
So if YOU want the real story may I suggest you check out Kieth Olberman or Rachel Maddow. You can also go to the White House Briefing room http://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing_room/ if you dare!
  • patpierce · 1 month ago
In nine months, the Bumbler in Charge Now has TRIPLED the deficit Bush accumulated in eight YEARS. He campaigned against Bush's spending, then proceeded to triple it. Now he will have control over another 1/6 of our economy, and his minions will decide whether grandma can have her hip replacement so she can walk again.
  • mcgtrinsofla · 1 month ago
the deficit tripled because Obama was HONEST enough to include the costs of BUSH"S WARS in the budget. look beyond the pablum of fox and limbaugh before spewing yer ignorance!

The deficit tripled because Obama did not bring home the troops, one of his major campaign promises; and because of the outrageous no-help no-stimulus package he shoved down our throats. And now he is passing health care legislation that will add another trillion to the deficit. Ignorance is bliss, they say, so you must be happy.

You know that when Social Security was enacted the Republicans at that time didn't want it and most of them didn't vote for it. Here we go again with history repeating itself. Whether you like it or not and even with its problems Social Security has worked out for most people.
There are still some really older citizens out there who remember what it was like before Social Security. There really are people in this country who need health reform. I

MY POINt: Republicans have never really been a Party that believed in helping out anybody but themselves.-Going way back. I guess it's true that a leopard can't change it's spots.

They've already taken away my freedoms. Now I support the loss of your so-called "freedoms" - the freedom to lie, the freedom to outlaw abortion, the freedom to establish an official religion, the freedom to perform extraordinary renditions, the freedom to invade countries that are not a threat to us, the freedom to send young men and women to die in a battle of ideology that they don't understand, the freedom to deny health care to Americans who can't afford it, the freedom to incarcerate for victimless or minor crimes, the freedom to destroy our economy in pursuit of those goals, etc., etc.
  • patpierce · 1 month ago
The "freedom" to pay for illegal aliens' schooling, medical care from cradle to grave, and the freedom to pay for all elective abortions so girls and women won't be "saddled" with a baby...as Hussein so delicately put it.
  • mcgtrinsofla · 1 month ago
i am so sick of the "cnservitives" wrapping up thier bigotry and hatred in flag and bible. i would say "get a life", but, obviously they have none, or any idea what to do with one if they had it.
  • drdd · 1 month ago
You already pay for schooling and what is wrong with paying for medical care for those who need it? As far as elective abortions - it's the right, according to law, for women to choose that route and none of your business. Generally women who do have abortions do so because they don't know of alternative and feel unable to care for a child. If people like you were willing to help them support themselves and the children, maybe they wouldn't feel the need to abort but it's the same people who scream against abortion who also scream about medical care, food stamps, etc. for those in need. You made my point with your stupid remarks - just wanted to point it out to you.
  • donnacoles · 1 month ago
What freedoms (lol) They have all been taken away already. Let's see I cannot smoke weed, or cigarettes for that matter. My body is no longer mine, with outsiders wanting to legislate me having to be an incabator, and tread all over my reproductive rights. Peaceful protest gets you arrested if your group leans left. Just ask all those bike riders. Health Industry beaurocrats deny paying out on claims even though I pay a hugh monthly premium, seems to me it should be my doctor who decides; not some shirt behind a desk
I would have to say the DMV works better than Aetna, the provider I use. I never had trouble getting a license! Men and women are sent to war, even though Articles of War are not drafted. So if you are looking for the truth you better look somewhere else than America. Where we still deny the holocust perpertrated on the Native Americans that were here before European Colonozation
  • patpierce · 1 month ago
Hussein has already said that medical marijuana should be legalized. Look for it in the coming days. Tell them you have a headache and voila! marijuana! Your body is yours: Birth prevention is available in many, many forms. Try using that instead of abortion. If you don't want "some shirt behind a desk" making your medical decisions, you had better vote "No" on Pelosi's health bill. Those men and women sent to war are ALL VOLUNTEERS. Nobody grabbed them from behind a desk in college, dressed them in uniforms and plunked them down in Iraq or Afghanistan. They wanted to be part of something bigger than themselves, so they pledged everything up to and including their lives to keep this country free from further attacks. If you can't get behind them, then feel free to get in front of them.
  • donnacoles · 1 month ago
Many voters throughout their state have voted for medical marijuana to be legal, Federal Government have repeatedly treaded on states rights; Obama giving states back that decision by not having feds prosecute. What ever happened to those that preach about States right, the principle tenent of our Founding father. At 53 yr old I know body is mine, women's birth control still intrusive , hormones may not be the way I want to go [men dont have to ingest synthetic product]; I have that right to choose even if I choose to incabate. Constitution gives me the right to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness; so other people deciding I have to be a mother clearly is unconstitutional by treading on my rights.  I don't like the Pelosi health bill, I rather European version of health care, there is a reason Danes are happiest people. As for our volunteer army tell that to men and women who are being told after 3-4 tours of duty sorry you still can't leave
even though your contract is up, because not enough people want to volunteer. If we are at war, than bring back the draft and make all Americans responsible for fighting for our freedom. We know how many are recruited, they are grabbed before they even make it to college; living in economically deprived areas all over America and told you can go to college after you get out. As for our last statement why do you think pacifist are not freedom fighters who support our troops, maybe we don't suppport certain wars. After all Obama is deciding right now on what to do with a depleted force in Afghanistan/Pakistan which always was the war zone. Knowone can blindly follow, look at where it got the German's. As a New Yorker maybe I believe that funding my police force fighting terrorist might be more productive. To tell you the truth I think Ray Kelly is doing the best job fighing terrorism; just look at how many plots NYPD has broken up.

    Response to paularevere

If you have ever had the misfortune of having no insurance then those options of who makes the health care decisions is how much money you have to pay. Therefore since you cannot afford insurance there is no flue shot, etc. Further HMO's currently make decisions for must of those with insurance. They are beuarocrats whose focus is profit. If the a government option is going to be so bad then employers that provide non government insurance will have a good recruiting tool to find and keep the best employees.

What news sources are you thinking of FOX! I agree that it is critical to view multiple sources before forming opinions.
  • paularevere · 1 month ago
My point is that we can 1.) spend our effort looking backwards to figure out who is to blame, or 2.) focus on what is really going on now in order to determine if it's what we want. We are being hurtled forward at a very fast pace, and many have their heads turned backwards. The impact is really going to hurt.

The victory seems to make it clear that hype does not represent a winning strategy. Fox's efforts to place your race at the center of the Tea Party led Republican resurgence and then to dismiss their loss as a matter of no consequence speaks to that network's and the Republican Party's easy disregard for the truth.
Mr Own now needs to represent your new constituents as best he can and awaken them to how Republican representation is the future and not the past. He will need all the support he can get since his reelection campaign began the moment he won.

The U.S.A. PATRIOT Act is the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act." If you have a preferred method to fight terrorism, you still have the right to fight that fight.

I believe that most Americans did not expect that we would have to worry about tyranny, which is terrifying to freedom-loving individuals, from the INSIDE.
  • panthercat · 1 month ago
While the American Sheeple may not have been aware of it, those who framed our Constitution were very well aware of it, as they included safeguards, some of which have been completely bypassed and ignored. Checks and balances have become unchecked and imbalanced. The executive branch was formed out of three sections, but there has been a concerted effort by some to turn it into a singular power. If we as a nation had kept our eyes on the ball instead of believing a bunch of horse manure, we might not be in such dire straights. When given the chance, most will invariably prefer a pretty lie over an ugly truth.

Healthcare is a major issue that needs to be addressed, unfortunately, it seems to be going down the tubes from too much partisan bickering. Picking up one senate seat when so many Democrats are getting cold feet about healthcare is not encouraging.
  • paularevere · 1 month ago
I agree that we need healthcare reform. But we don't need this 2000-page one. True reform will include tort reform (anyone notice how quiet the lawyers have been in this healthcare debate?). True reform will allow us to buy insurance from any company in the country, not just the ones in our own states. That would force the insurance companies to be competitive in their prices, coverage and service. And true reform would exclude a public option. Since the government can print money (which will cause inflation...oops...there goes the value of your money), all private plans will be extinquished, sooner or later. We will then have universal healthcare, provided by the government, with absolutely no choice, no way to appeal, and no control of the cost. As we all know, the government does not operate efficiently, fairly, or economically. The reason is because the government is not free. It must answer to special interest groups and numerous laws that attempt to make everything fair, but actually make what they do unfair, inefficient, and costly.

So, the healthcare plan up for vote is going to be costly, won't cover everyone, and will become our only option. Covering everyone and addressing the pre-existing condition issues can be addressed and resolved without destroying a system that 85% of Americans are happy with. So, what is the real reason that Washington is trying to get this bill jammed through so fast? Take a look at the bill to see that it is all about government control. We'll start paying taxes almost immediately, but the coverage won't start for years. That's very odd, and is unfair in and of itself.

I trust that you can see that I am not hysterical. I do get my news from various sources, including conservative and liberals ones. I have read parts of the healthcare and cap/tax bills. I have also read Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals. If you think you're pretty savvy about what's going on, be sure to check out which rule you've become a part of.

If you ever plan to buy or sell a house, know that in the cap/tax bill, you will need to have a certified environmental inspector come into your home for an energy evaluation. Your appliances and windows and heating system, etc. will all be inspected to see if they meet government approval. If not, you get to upgrade them. Yes, it's in the bill. So, for those of you who think that you've already lost your freedoms, please think again. This will be invasive in a way that we Americans have not experienced.
  • paularevere · 1 month ago
The thought that I see scattered throughout these comments is that we are really in a bind because of decisions that people in the government have made. Regardless of whom you want to blame, the point is pretty clear that government usually makes wrong decisions on our behalf. Their short-term decisions cause negtive, unintended consequences that they do not anticipate.

Therefore, why would anyone want to relinquish control of our own doctors and medical decisions to the government?

Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result, is insanity.
  • paularevere · 1 month ago
Let's try something positive for our economy. There is proof that this works.

There was a president who was inaugurated when the highest tax rate was 81% and the tax revenue was $450 billion. Congress, under his leadership, REDUCED taxes to 28%, and 8 years later, the tax revenue was over double at $900 billion.

So, why is our president not doing the same thing? And why is he focused on jamming this expensive healthcare bill, along with a cap and tax bill that will drive our energy costs up, through when our economy is in shambles?
  • stevelv · 1 month ago
Interesting that you don't want to name that president... And try this: parallel your little tax rate history with the pre and post on the national deficit during the same period of time. We might get a little fuller picture of what that president's policies did for our country in the long run. It seems tax focused folks are only interested in short term profit. They keep taxes low by deferring maintenance and long range modest investment in favor of leverage in the short term that balloons the deficit leaving it for future generations to pay. The "lavish" spending going on is not to stuff the coffers of the already wealthy, but to finally attempt to correct the disasters that short term profiteers have created in the name of low taxes and unregulated financial policies.
  • stevelv · 1 month ago
We are not in a bind due to government, per se, but due to government that has that has capitulated to the pressures of business interests. If I get to choose between someone who is attempting to regulate health care in favor of the patient and someone whose avowed loyalty is to profit for the stockholders, I think I'll go with the government instead of the insurance and pharmaceutical companies. Government that works in favor of the people instead of business interests is instantly branded as "socialist," but it seems the people are not being fooled by this tired old tactic this time around.
  • paularevere · 1 month ago
Profit is bad? Anyone who has worked for a company knows that it must make a profit in order to pay its employees. Anyone who has held stock knows that to have it be a good investment, it must make a profit. I have never worked for a poor person. I think each of would love to have a "profit" in our bank account at the end of the month. It's a sound way to manage any enterprise, whether it's your own account or a pharmaceutical company. Please consider where you formed your ideas about profit being a bad thing. One suggestion is that government promotes class warfare so that they can continue to tax those profitable (greedy!) companies and especially those financially successful (greedy!) rich people.

I choose to offer concepts that work, versus naming the people behind them. As can be seen by the comments. some viewers are not interested in admitting facts. A knee-jerk reaction is easier, requires less analytical thinking, and allows a continuation of the infighting of me versus you. Meanwhile, while we are stuck in the mire, those in government are taking our freedoms away.

We're talking imperfect capitalism; they talking Mao.

PaulaRevere, Good copmments!!, We are a capitalist country, and risk and entreprenuerialism should be rewrded. And people should only get what they EARN, ... BUT, have you looked at how inefficient our health system is??? WE have shorter life spans by far while spending almost DOUBLE per capita. WE have 700,000 bankruptcies at least partially due to medical costs. HOw many in Enland, Fance, Germany, Australia, etc, ??? NONE. That many foreclosed homes (dur to medial induced banruptcies), and personal expense is a huge drain on our economy. And heaven help >YOU< if you get sick and lose your insurance. DEmocracy, even a capitalist democracy, must be more than two wolves and a sheep voting on whats for dinner. And Dont get me started on Bush Cheney totally screwing up this country, count the spending on IRAQ war, and thatis made us LESS SAFE, look at those statisitics!!!! not even counting life and injury. , and republicans are blaming Obama??? amazing!!
